WooCommerce Marketing & Google Ads Consultant

Google Ads, Meta, ChatGPT Ads and CRO for WooCommerce stores — by Jaseel M, a WordPress plugin developer as well as a performance marketer.

In brief

WooCommerce stores need more tracking work than Shopify ones, because purchase tracking, product feeds and Conversions APIs come from a mix of plugins rather than one built-in integration. I fix the tracking first — one source for each purchase event, correct values and currency, deduplicated browser and server events — then run Google Ads, Shopping, Meta and ChatGPT Ads and improve conversion rate on the store itself.

Why WooCommerce is different

On Shopify, Google, Meta and most ad platforms connect through official sales channels. On WooCommerce, the same job is split across plugins — a Google Listings & Ads or feed plugin, a Meta plugin, a GTM plugin, an analytics plugin — and themes and caching plugins can break any of them. The result I find most often:

  • Purchases tracked two or three times because several plugins each fire a purchase event.
  • Purchases not tracked at all for PayPal, UPI or gateway payments that return to a different thank-you URL.
  • Revenue including tax and shipping in one platform and not another.
  • Feeds missing variations, so products show at the wrong price or are disapproved.
  • Full-page caching serving one visitor's tracking data to another.

WooCommerce Google Ads conversion tracking, done once

I choose one route per platform — usually Google Tag Manager with a WooCommerce data layer, or a single well-maintained plugin — remove the duplicates, and check every payment method actually reaches the thank-you event. Then enhanced conversions are enabled with hashed customer data, and the result is reconciled against WooCommerce orders for the same days.

For ChatGPT Ads, ConvoPixel — the free plugin I built — handles WooCommerce purchases through the OpenAI pixel and Conversions API with automatic deduplication and a cache-safe queue. The Meta Conversions API on WooCommerce follows the same rules.

  • Product feed from WooCommerce into Merchant Center, with variations, GTINs and custom labels for margin.
  • Shopping and Performance Max structured by margin band, not by WooCommerce category.
  • Search campaigns for high-intent product and category terms.
  • Targets from margin using the break-even ROAS calculator.

WooCommerce conversion rate optimisation

WooCommerce gives you complete control of the store, which also means complete responsibility for speed and checkout. The CRO work I do most on WooCommerce:

  1. Speed — hosting, image delivery, plugin bloat and caching rules that do not break the cart.
  2. Checkout — fewer fields, guest checkout, the right local payment methods, block-based checkout where it helps.
  3. Product pages — delivery dates, returns and the questions customers actually ask, answered on the page.
  4. WhatsApp and phone — tracked as conversions, because in India and the GCC many sales start there.

WooCommerce marketing in India

A large share of Indian D2C brands run on WooCommerce. I work with them from Kozhikode, Kerala, including Thoppia, a premium home furnishings and custom decor store where WhatsApp and phone enquiries were finally tracked as conversions.

Is Google Ads tracking harder on WooCommerce than Shopify?

Usually, yes, because it depends on plugins and themes rather than one official integration. It is entirely fixable — the key is one source per event and testing every payment method.

Which plugin should I use for Google Ads on WooCommerce?

It depends on your theme, caching and other plugins. I often use Google Tag Manager with a WooCommerce data layer for control, or a single maintained plugin for simpler stores — never several at once.
