How to Fix Disapproved Products in Google Merchant Center

Disapproved products cannot advertise, and stores often carry hundreds without knowing. Here are the common causes and the fix for each.

Short answer

To fix disapproved products in Google Merchant Center, open the products diagnostics, group issues by type, and fix the largest group first. The most common causes are price or availability that differs between the feed and the landing page, missing or invalid GTINs, image problems such as promotional overlays, landing pages Google cannot crawl, and policy issues. Fix the source — usually the store platform or a feed rule — then let Merchant Center re-crawl or resubmit the feed.

Start with the diagnostics

In Merchant Center, the products and diagnostics views list item issues by type and by how many products each affects. Sort by number of products. One fix to a feed rule or a platform setting often clears hundreds of disapprovals at once.

Common causes and fixes

Issue Usual cause Fix
Price mismatch Sale price, currency or tax display differs between feed and page; caching shows old prices Make the feed and page use the same price source; check sale price dates; exclude product pages from aggressive caching
Availability mismatch Stock synced late; variants out of stock Faster feed sync; correct availability per variant
Missing or invalid GTIN Barcodes not entered, or made-up numbers Add real GTINs; for own-brand products without GTINs, set identifier_exists appropriately
Image issues Promotional text, watermarks, placeholder or tiny images Clean product images at a good resolution
Landing page not working Page blocked by robots.txt, password protection, geo-redirects, slow or erroring pages Allow Google's crawler; remove redirects for Googlebot's country; fix errors
Policy violations Restricted products, health claims, counterfeit concerns Read the specific policy; edit or exclude the product
Missing shipping or tax Account-level settings incomplete for a target country Configure shipping and returns in Merchant Center

Account-level problems

If many products are disapproved at once, or the account shows a warning or suspension, the cause is usually not the products:

  • Misrepresentation — missing contact information, returns policy, business details or secure checkout; claims the site cannot support.
  • Website not verified or claimed.
  • Shipping and returns policies missing for the countries you advertise in.

Fix the site first, then request a review. Repeated review requests without changes can extend the wait.

Shopify and WooCommerce specifics

  • Shopify: the Google & YouTube channel shows sync issues; most fixes are in product data or Shopify Markets settings. Do not run a second feed app pushing the same products.
  • WooCommerce: check the feed plugin exports variations correctly and that caching is not serving stale prices to Google.

Prevent it happening again

  1. Use supplemental feeds and feed rules for fixes, so the next platform sync does not undo them.
  2. Check diagnostics weekly — new products bring new issues.
  3. Set an internal rule that new products need a GTIN or a deliberate exemption before going live.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Merchant Center take to re-approve products?

Item-level fixes are usually picked up on the next feed fetch or crawl, often within a few days. Account reviews can take longer.

Do disapproved products affect my whole account?

Individual disapprovals affect only those products, but large numbers of policy issues can lead to account-level warnings.

What if my products do not have GTINs?

Own-brand or handmade products may not have them. Set the identifier attributes correctly rather than inventing numbers.

Why does Merchant Center say my price is wrong when it is correct?

Google may be seeing a different page version — a cached page, a different currency or a geo-redirect. Check the page as Google sees it.
