Shopify Marketing & Google Ads Consultant

Paid media for Shopify and Shopify Plus stores, by Jaseel M — with Shopify's own orders, not the ad platforms, as the scoreboard.

In brief

Google Ads for a Shopify store works best when three things are right before any campaign is touched: purchase tracking that matches Shopify's orders, a product feed that describes products the way people search, and targets set from margin. I set those up through Shopify's Google & YouTube and Facebook & Instagram channels or Google Tag Manager, then run Shopping, Performance Max, Search and Meta for Shopify and Shopify Plus stores in the UK, India and the UAE.

The Shopify-specific problems

Shopify makes connecting ad platforms easy, which is also why tracking goes wrong so often: the official channels, third-party apps and leftover theme code each add their own tags.

  • Duplicate purchase conversions — the Google & YouTube channel plus a GTM or app tag, both primary.
  • Checkout extensibility — old checkout scripts stopped working when Shopify moved to customer events and pixels; some stores never noticed.
  • Values in the wrong currency for multi-currency stores selling through Shopify Markets.
  • Feed titles straight from product names, too short for Shopping to match on.
  • Performance Max claiming brand searches as new sales.

If your Shopify sales and Google Ads conversions do not agree, read the causes and fixes first.

How I run Google Ads for Shopify stores

  1. Tracking verified against Shopify orders: one primary purchase action, correct value and currency, enhanced conversions on.
  2. Feed improved through Merchant Center rules or a supplemental feed: titles, product types, GTINs, custom labels by margin.
  3. Structure: brand Search separate; Shopping and Performance Max split by margin band; non-brand Search for high-intent terms.
  4. Targets from break-even ROAS, not from last month's average.
  5. Meta alongside, with the Conversions API at maximum data sharing and Advantage+ shopping campaigns — see Meta Ads for e-commerce.
  6. Reporting on contribution margin and new-customer revenue, reconciled to Shopify.

Shopify stores I have worked on

  • Seaspray — premium British swimwear and resort wear on Shopify: feed rebuilt, catalogue segmented by margin band, PMax given brand exclusions and product-group asset groups.
  • Lister Cartwright — British made-to-measure blinds on Shopify: tracking extended through the product configurator, sample requests valued as their own conversion.

Both were delivered as performance marketing strategist via a UK creative agency. Details on the case studies page.

Markets

Should I use the Google & YouTube app or Google Tag Manager on Shopify?

For most stores the Google & YouTube channel is the simplest reliable option for purchases and the feed. GTM via Shopify customer events gives more control for complex setups. The important thing is not to run both as primary purchase conversions.

Do you work with Shopify Plus?

Yes. Plus stores often have custom checkout logic, multiple expansion stores and Markets, which makes tracking and feed work more involved — and more valuable.

Frequently asked questions

Can you help a new Shopify store?

Yes, though for a store with no sales history I usually recommend a short setup project and a modest test budget rather than a retainer.

Do you do Shopify SEO?

No. I focus on paid media, tracking and conversion rate. I can work alongside your SEO provider.

Do you work as a freelancer or through an agency?

Directly with brands as an independent consultant, or white-label through agencies.
